About the Institute

The Nimrud Technical Institute was officially reopened on May 27, 2025, by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and with generous support from the governments of Sweden and Italy. This reopening represents a significant step in the reconstruction and stabilization efforts in conflict-affected areas. The institute, which suffered extensive damage during the war, reopened today as a vital center for agricultural education and economic opportunities for youth.

The institute is strategically important, supporting more than 300 students and faculty members, in addition to serving a broad local community of over a quarter of a million people. The opening of the nearby bridge over the Tigris River also enhances its role as a key economic driver, connecting regions and stimulating agricultural and development activity.
